Computer-Generated Captioning on Kaltura

Overview

This document shows how to add captions for videos you have uploaded in Kaltura.

How to add computer captioning in Kaltura

  1. Log in to iCollege or Mediaspace.gsu.edu.
  2. If you logged into the Mediaspace website, skip to step 5. If you logged into iCollege, Enter the course you wish to upload a video to, or that contains an existing Kaltura video for which you would like to add captioning.
  3. From the Course Navigation bar, click Content and Media.

  5. In, the drop-down menu, click Kaltura My Media.

  7. Locate the Video for which you will be Adding captions, and click on the Video Title Link.

  9. Select the Actions drop-down menu button located towards the bottom of the page.
  10. From the drop-down menu, select Order Captions.

  12. Under Fidelity, click the Order Captions button. This initiates the captioning order process.

    NOTE:

    • Once a video is uploaded to Kaltura, it is accessible from any of your iCollege course sections.
    • Captions may take time to generate and may not appear immediately after the captions have been ordered. You will know that the captioning process is complete when the “caption complete” tag appears on the tags list.
  14. After submitting your Caption Order Request you will receive a message acknowledging that your order has been received. Click OK after viewing this message.

  16. At this point you will begin to receive status updates during each processing phase, which includes PENDING, IN PROCESS, followed by COMPLETE.
  17. Next, return to Actions and click Caption Requests

  19. When the captioning status for your video says COMPLETE, click Edit.

  21. You will be able to tweak your text captioning prior to approving your captions for final distribution. It may take several minutes for your captions to process to the point where you may edit them. Once the processing is complete, you can edit the computer generated captions using the box in the center.

  23. If you’d like to save your caption edits and return later to finish them, click save. Otherwise, if you’re done editing your captions, click Approve.
    NOTE: Once captions have been approved, you will no longer have the ability to edit the text.
    1. If you’d like to finish editing your captions later, click Save

  24. In the Approve Job? window, click Approve.
